and the winner is....

Swiss architect Peter Zumthor has become the 2009 Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate. His practice is often associated with the Kolumba Art Museum and more recently the Brother Klaus Chapel both in Germany. Perhaps his most recognisable work however is the Therme Vals, a sedate modern spa in Switzerland, that has acquired media sensation often being used as a backdrop fashion shoots and advertisements. Following Herzog de Meuron in 2001, he is the second Swiss architect to win the award.

The Pritzker Architecture Prize is the highest professional honour, bestowed on
living architects whose built work demonstrates a combination of those qualities of talent, vision and committment, which has produced consistent and significant contributions to humanity and the built environment through the art of architecture

thanks for the corrections

Peter Zumthor is a SWISS architect, not French. He was born in Basel and works out of his small studio-- which he founded in 1979--- in the town of Haldenstein, Switzerland.
