London's famed underground railway cars to be recycled into work spaces for start-up creative firms. “The idea came from my own experience as a designer trying to start a small practice with friends – we just couldn’t get a foot on the ladder because of the price of studio and workspace….so I designed my own.”

"...undermines the evolution of an authentic Caribbean architecture, " these are the words penned by Bajan architects Architects Cubed (dubbed the first all female practice in Barbados) in July's issue of the Architectural Review. Great to see issues on Caribbean architecture getting attention on a global stage.
Also featured in the same issue is a house titled Moonshine, by Piers Taylor who participated with me at the 2001 Glenn Murcutt Masterclass (deep & wide)

32nd annual Ken Roberts Memorial Delineation competition
The competition was organized in 1973 by Ken Roberts, a talented Dallas architect who passed away the following year at age 34. The Dallas AIA chapter renamed the annual competition in his honor. That tradition continues in its thirty-first year.
All entries must be of an architectural nature, and must be authored by one individual. Drawings can be in the form of plans, elevations, sections, or perspectives, and can be conceptual or final renderings; exploration and innovation in unique techniques are encouraged. While there is no limit to the number of entries one can submit, submissions awarded in past Ken Roberts competitions are not eligible. Sketchbooks as a whole will not be accepted; a single, clearly marked page within the sketchbook may be entered.

MiniHome
the folks over at MiniHome dropped me an email to say...
The Sustain MiniHome is an elegant and modern yet autonomous, off-the-grid living unit with all of the comforts of home and more, built from green and sustainable materials.
The miniHome is now officially past the prototype phase and available for purchase for spring delivery anywhere in North America. One of the limitatations of modern prefab is that has been restricted by state-by-state regulation and local installation issues. The miniHome was designed to avoid all that- it treads lightly on the landscape, needs no foundation and is legal almost everywhere.
