NYIT architecture students want to help build a recycling center they designed in Costa Rica, and fund a documentary film about it. More regarding this initiative

80*120 Workshop

Over the month of October 2010, 28 participants in the "80*120" workshop produced11 street furniture items were made from pallets. The self-build workshop organized by Izmo was targeted to students and professionals in the field of architecture and design. The project was to make outdoor furniture within the urban redevelopment of an abandoned green area, "di pallet In the pallet."

Guided by a design process and theory, the project has focused on the disclosure of reuse and method of self-build in order to make sustainable and environmentally friendly outdoor furniture for the public space. The design process was characterized by the following phases: theory, design, construction, installation in public space.

Interiors : The Brick Loft

This project entailed the conversion of a former industrial office located in Joo Chiat in Singapore, into an airy & chic apartment. Designed by architects & cross disciplinary practice, FARM the spaces of the loft are bathed in light against the stark white wall surfaces and steel floated concrete floors. Conceptually the apartment borrows a localized aesthetic seen in textured ventilation blocks, painted brick and exposed, unrendered structure.

New Work ::: "Loop" Loft

The Loop loft by Ten to One Architecture, is a renovation to a 2,500 ft² live/work in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The Loop is defined by a timber feature, made from sustainably harvested worm-infested butternut hardwood, that interacts with the space becoming a multiplicity of things - at times a floor, a ceiling, a library, etc meanwhile concealing loft's services such as radiant floor heating, air conditioning and lighting.

Ten to One Architecture is a small Brooklyn based design / build studio founded in 2004 by Garrick Jones, developed in parallel with his work as Studio Director at the award winning and internationally recognized architecture firm Della Valle Bernheimer

new work ::: Schönberg Project

Designed by Dialect Design a design and build practice in Charlotte, North Carolina; the Schönberg Project is a modern second story addition to the couple's existing home containing a reading room that both evokes the intimacy of reading and adventure with it's hovering red boxes.

72 Hour Urban Action Project

The 72 Hour Urban Action Project is an international rapid architecture and design festival. Defined by community needs, a deadline, a tight budget and limited space the competition invites teams of architects, students, designers, artists and craftspeople to respond to community needs. Selected teams will have three days to plan and realize their projects. Selected projects will remain on site permanently. Winners will be selected by a professional jury.

house of the week 72: Lifeguard Tower

Design-Build practice Lazar has recently completed a 5,000 ft² residence in Hermosa Beach, California. Dubbed the “lifeguard tower” the house is a contemporary interpretation of the lifeguard stations of Cape Cod, seen in the rooftop lounge with panoramic views.

Architecture Schools

The Sundance Channel will be hosting a documentary plainly dubbed Architecture Schools a mini-series following the design-build programme at Tulane University. The project, to build a sustainable, design-forward home for a family returning to New Orleans is produced and directed by architects Michael Selditch and Stan Bertheaud and tells the story of twelve idealistic architecture students who are bringing a social mission into the classroom by working with communities and populations that do not traditionally have access to architects.
