Any pix of the inside? This is very oriental in terms of use of space, not so much in landscaping but maybe it was a limited area... I am interested to see what the interior is decorated to look like.

Anonymous, I think you meant to say "simple. very simple" when you left us with the diatribe "boooooring." How original.

  3. it appears to be simple (like many works of architects Alvaro Siza and Adolph Loos), but i would imagine that the simplicity masks a great deal of wonderful interior spaces.

can you tell us more about the architect, location, place to find other photographs, etc.?

    Thalia,
I thought my comment extremely apt for this building: It was carefully chosen to match the reductionist aesthetic of the project, ergo all my feelings condensed to one simple word. "Boring".
If you want me to further elaborate on my thoughts, here are a couple of points. The design makes little or no reference to its local climate. Remiss63 mentioned Alvaro Siza, but Alvaro produces an elegant simplicity whilst creating a regional architecture. Tei evidently does not: the exposed AC units testify to a climatically inadequate building where solar gain through the unshaded glass and walls must create an uncomfortable environment for part of the year in Kobe. Evidently the design is a triumph of reductionism over substance. Further, to create a simple box, the detailing must be extremely careful to keep the simplicity and elegance, raising the piece above there merely utilitarian. The drainpipes and the AC units stuck on the side however mar any attempt at such elegant purity. The material and ethereal sensuality that can be created with minimalism seems to be lacking with this work - it appears there may be much to learn from rhe multi layered musical compositions of his brother Towa Tei... Or even his own product designs for intentionallies - simplicity with materiality. There you go, a couple & 1 points why....
Oh and finally, the comment was really just a small dig at our friendly neighbourhood blogger David/MAD who provides us with a daily dose of design, but who has a penchant for the 'boxtastic". David, this is more box, and less 'tastic.....
