New Work ::: Hotel Nau Royal

This new boutique hotel in São Sebastião in Sao Paulo was designed by Brazilian Architects GCP. Large window openings face the views along the Cambury Beach and are framed by certified timber brise-soleils. The design from inception aimed to minimize the impact with the environment; the hotel harvests all rain and gray water used on the property, which is then treated and re-used in the toilets and all hot water is produced by Solar water heaters.

New Work ::: The Technology School of Guelmim

The Technology School of Guelmim in Morocco was designed architects Saad El Kabbaj, Driss Kettani & Mohamed Amine Siana. The programme consists of classrooms, workshops, laboratories and a library, as well as administrative spaces, teacher’s offices and office staff housing - there is also an amphitheatre for public gatherings.

The exterior palette draws from the land, utilizing a cladding technique symbolizing both the Moroccan earth and earthern building practices. The massive textured volume of the exterior is in contrast to the smooth white interior spaces. The spaces are brought together with indoor gardens that appear cut from the mass.

The protruding windows and brise soleils that appear carved from the facade show a clarity and understanding of the harsh climate.

Mole Magazine: Call for Submissions

A group of architecture students affiliated with the University of Waterloo School of Architecture are launching a new publication, Mole Magazine. With a jury including Mason White of Lateral Office, Daniel D'Oca of Interboro Partners, Brigitte Shim of Shim - Sutcliffe, and John Hong and Jinhee Park of SsD. The inaugural theme is "Cute Little Things"; As our world expands, its components are becoming infinitely small: smartphones, microchips, mp3’s, teacup chihuahuas and so forth. We have become obsessed, and increasingly adept, at compacting complex systems and ideas into cute little packages. The downsizing movement has become immensely profitable; even the infamous American consumerism has been won over by this ubiquitous trend, putting pressure on product designers to cater to a marketplace where “smaller is better”; nanotechnology, ‘fun-sized’ snacks, Smart cars, and microbreweries have established a viable and pervasive market. New forms of infrastructure, technology and architecture are emerging in response to this vastly expanding framework. Architectural representation has begun to stray from the standard methods of communication, encapsulating entire projects into intellectually bite-sized diagrams.

Deadline is September 30th, 2012
Submissions should be article, project, drawing, or photography based
Send submissions to editor@molemagazine.com
